The ever-growing volume of data requires the integration of optoelectrical components for efficient data transmission. In this context, material systems and technologies have been developed in recent years that can meet the requirements. Polymeric waveguides have gained interest due to their expected cost-effectiveness and flexible processing. In this edition of “Meet the experts”, David Weyers from IAVT's optical packaging group, will present the challenges and results of his work on the fabrication of single-mode waveguides made from hybrid polymers materials, measuring just a few micrometres with a structured cladding. Aspects of integration for advanced wafer-level packaging will also be demonstrated. The IAVT Optics Packaging Group focuses on the development of optical connections at the PCB and interposer level and has been working for over 10 years with hybrid polymers for polymeric waveguide structures. This webinar provides a guide to process development with OrmoCore/Clad and lessons learned.
